Spreading Fear

“We have it totally under control” -Donald Trump

Coronavirus is spreading fear all over China and you say, “We have it totally under control”.

Yeah, okay whatever. This is bullshit! A virus doesn’t care about borders.

I Can’t Breathe

I’m feeling trapped… claustrophobic.

I am anticipating staying in NOLA (New Orleans) even longer now because no one knows what’s going to happen. No one seems to know anything about Coronavirus. I am ready to leave here. We have been here longer than we expected to and the emergence of this virus isn’t making it better.

Coronavirus is spreading everywhere in China and we still haven’t received any kind of guidance at the hospital which is super concerning. The modes of transportation these days is FAST! There are planes, trains, cars, and ships. People travel internationally daily.

Coronavirus could, potentially, already be in America.

I am working at the largest hospital in NOLA and if Coronavirus makes it here (which it most likely will) we will NEED some guidance from administration. And, so far, we nurses haven’t heard anything.

Questions About Coronavirus

As a nurse, I naturally wonder about certain things related to Coronavirus.

What is the mode of transmission?

Do the hospitals have enough PPE?

How is the hospital going to separate the positive patients from the negative patients?

Maybe the hospital already has a plan in place and that’s why we aren’t hearing anything. Everything is so ‘up in the air’ right now.

Why Aren’t We Talking About The Coronavirus

Does everyone know how to wash their hands properly?

I think I’ll give my boys a call and teach them how to wash their hands if they don’t already know. As a matter of fact, I will  call my whole family and teach them how to wash their hands over the phone. It’s easy… At least 20 seconds with soap and water.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m overthinking this.

I’ve been told I do that- Overthink things.

Sometimes I don’t think that’s such a bad thing… Is it?

Quote of the day

“If you have fear of some pain or suffering, you should examine whether there is anything you can do about it. If you can, there is no need to worry about it and, if you cannot do anything, then there is also no need to worry.” –  the Dalai Lama

  • The Coronavirus outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020.
  • A reporter asks if there are worries about a pandemic. Trump responds:

“No. Not at all. And, we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
